Personal transformation facilitates collective elevation. We rise up, and shine!

Inner LightIt was quite revealing to witness the shifts around me once I finally decided that I would prioritize myself.  Ironically, I only came to that decision to begin with because I was killing myself trying to please the unpleasable and to be present for those who were not even present for themselves.  Breaking through the chrysalis, I gained a fresh way of being, and I am overjoyed.  Sunny is back, and on fire.

“You, yourself, as much as anybody else in the entire universe, deserve your love and affection.” – Buddha

“Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built up against it.” – Rumi

“I can’t live for everybody…I gotta live my life for me…I’m dropping these bags, I’m making room for my joy.”
India Arie

How are you showing yourself love today?

What standard for loving you are you setting for others to follow??

Happy Earth Light to Bob Marley!  Your torch will forever brighten our way.

Like the seasons, he came and went. Gone at 36 years young, he nevertheless transformed the world. His magnanimous music resounds today, revealing material evidence of his mystical footprint. Burdened and tormented, duppy conquerer Marley brought to us the Balm of Gilead and left us a legacy of love.  This rastaman’s vibrations, raised ours in more ways than we count.

What’s your favorite Bob Marley song?  What does it conjure for you?

“Open your eyes, look within. Are you satisfied with the life you’re living?” – Bob Marley

rayofshineAfter 40 b’earthdays, I have come to the conclusion that affirmations are tremendously practical, productive and powerful.  There are certain things that I have known in my heart, knowledge which had been buried in debris from the natural disasters of my life.  In an effort to support my recovery, reparation and redevelopment, I have reintroduced affirmations into my daily practice.  I affirm myself with love, authority, gratitude and faith.  There is no doubt in my mind, despite the distractions of mainstream culture, that simple affirmations support my holistic well-being, mission and focus.

In honor of reaching this milestone in my life, I meditate daily on the following 40 affirmations:

  1. I am here. (Until now, for so many years, I have felt alienated from this world…no more.)
  2. I am worthy of life and love.
  3. I am love, lovable and loving.
  4. I am powerful and purposeful.
  5. I am in harmony with nature.
  6. I am flexible and resilient.

Autumn Equinox 2012 Vision Board

Autumn Equinox 2012 Vision Board

I created this vision board during the 2012 autumn equinox.  Although I had been collecting images and magazines for this purpose, it had been a few years since I last created one.  I am grateful for the goddess retreat that was the impetus this time around.  Once I sat down to the activity, my heart poured open.  Glitter, paper, glue covered my kitchen table.

Some elements of this board:

  1. Surfboards – Surfboards represent my deep desire to learn to surf.  (Everyone knows my affinity with the ocean, and other bodies of water.)
  2. Horse – I would love to have access to a horse that I can ride regularly.  Relationships with animals calm and ground me.
  3. Drum – I intend to continue developing my percussions skills.  (Thanks to Corey & LaQuita Staten with Atumpan: The Talking Drums, I am off to a great start.)
  4. Passport – International travel is in my near future.
  5. Luggage – I always want to have the ability to up and go somewhere on a whim.  I love being spontaneous and open to going whereever the wind takes me.
  6. Journal – My reminder to journal regularly.  I usually jot down thoughts and observations on scraps.  However, I realize the value of keeping my stream of consciousness in a centralized place so that I can quickly and simply string elements together.
  7. Octavia Butler – She is one of my creative writing muses.  I intend to have a book published in the next 5 years.
  8. Bob Marley – He is my lyrical muse and for me symbolic of the complexity of personal and social struggles.
  9. Shirley Chisholm – She is my role model for self-determination (aka my solar plexus muse).
  10. Hungarian Vizsla – I see a dog in my long term future as a companion.
  11. Works by Tamara Natalie Madden – She is my visual arts muse. TNM is bold and whimsical.
  12. Chakras – I intend to consciously support my inner balance and harmony.
  13. Feathers – I am taking my wings and flying in 2013 and beyond.
